Recently I haven’t been having that much time to write about tech stuff. That’s a bummer and I hope to improve that in the future. However, my wife and I are huge movie lovers and we spend pretty much every evening watching some cool movie (or a tv show). And frankly I invest solid time every single week in an attempt to find something cool to watch (hint: I hate watching a random movie!).
So, I’ve decided to compile a list of movies I’ve watched more or less recently. Most of these I watched with my wife but some I did alone so I’ll make a mention of that.
- The Life of Chuck (2024) — GOOD! Would watch it again for sure, mostly because I’m sure it gives different vibe once you see the ending! Plus I’m a big Stephen King fan so there’s that. Also, many people suggest not watching the trailer at all. I’m not sure why but I don’t watch trailers anyway.
- After Hours (1985) — REALLY FUNNY! Just watched it the other day. And yes – I never heard about it even though people call it one of Scorse’s best movies. It was a really damn funny comedy and I honestly loved the fact that the whole movie was set in, what today feels like 100 ages ago. Apparently there was an actual profession called “Word Processors”. Who’d say 😀
- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) — WTF! I have to prefix this with the fact that wife and I never finished this movie. And this is primarily because we usually can spend max of 1 – 1.5 hours, once the kiddo is in bed, before collapsing ourselves. And granted, this is one of the movies that HAS TO be watched in one sitting. I honestly loved it and freaking loved the setup but after third pause and resume we lost the vibe. Definitely looking forward to seeing it in one sitting in the future.
- Apocalypse Now (1979) — FUCKING AWESOME! I watched it alone as my wife is not into these kinds of movies. My advice – go for “normal” version and not the Extended/Director’s cut. First time I watched it I watched the extended one and honestly found it “meh”. Second time I made sure to find the normal-versioned one and I fucking loved it!!
- Arrival (2016) — LOVED IT! I watched this movie back in 2016 when it first came out and I remember feeling “meh”. It was interesting but I guess I expected the Interstellar vibes (hint: it doesn’t have them!). Well, I watched it again recently and I freaking cried like a baby at the end. I guess growing up and having your own kid gives you a fully different perspective on this movie.
- Interstellar (2014) — My favorite movie. Period. I don’t even have anything to say honestly. I think I watched it twice in the past and I rewatched it again some weeks ago and I think I keep just loving it more and more. Last rewatch was also my first time I watched it as a parent and yep, I fucking cried again. Looking forward to next rewatch!
- The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) — Not sure how I feel about it. It was a strange movie for sure. Weird & quite laid down vibe. And I love Colin Farrell so there’s that as well. But I’m really not sure this is something I’d watch again. I understand many people loved it but it left pretty strange and bland taste both to my wife and I.
- The Uninvited (2024) — Boring shit. I mean, I get it. After reading some more about it I figured that it’s supposed to give you the “behind the scenes” look into Hollywood stars or whatever, but I just kept waiting for something interesting to happen and it never did. As I said – boring shit.
- The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) — LOVED IT. I’ve seen the memes, okay? But up till this movie, I admit I haven’t seen much of Pedro Pascal (aside from his GoT role). Well shit. I laughed myself to tears in this move. And would watch it again in a heartbeat haha!
- The Florida Project (2017)— Dropped it after 30mins. Reviews and plot seemed really good but we just didn’t get any vibe from it so we dropped it. No idea how it unfolds.
- The Promised Lnd (2023) — Dropped it after ~1h. I myself am a huge fan of Mads Mikkelsen but honestly I just didn’t catch the energy of this movie. Acting is great and plot seems interesting but we just didn’t enjoy it and never really finished it.
- Wind River (2017) — GREAT MOVIE. It’s a really slow burn and quite depressing setting but honestly a freaking great movie with great plot. Highly recommend.
- Road House (2024) — Interesting. Wife and I are huge fans of Jake Gyllenhaal and we wanted to watch most of his stuff (spoiler alert: we LOVED each movie of his). This one was … interesting. Amusing. But didn’t leave much more taste than that honestly. Watch it if you don’t have anything better I guess but don’t get your hopes that high.
- Donnie Darko (2021) — Strange, but we love Jake Gyllenhaal. I watched this movie some 15 years ago and didn’t get it at all. But it’s been hanving on my watch list since then and I decided to rewatch. Well, still not sure how I feel but it’s an interesting movie, that’s for sure.
- Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) — Too slow; never finished it. I generally like slow-paced movies but this one didn’t really click for some reason. Cast and acting seem to be superb but we never finished it. Will surely give it a try in the future though!
- Nightcrawler (2014) — LOVED IT! Absolutely freaking awesome movie. I don’t even know what else I could say not to spoil it. Gyllenhaal nailing it like always. Amazing story and acting. Hell, freaking A+!
- In Bruges (2008) — I disliked it, but for all the wrong reasons. I have to prefix this by saying that I had no clue that Bruges is considered as one of the most beatufiul, charming, magic, funny, etc. cities. Yeah. Had no clue. Mistake’s on me, I know. But the thing is that the big deal in the whole movie relies on the fact that Bruge is … well, everything I had no idea it is. And I genuinely found the movie frustrating because I had no idea of this. And I genuinely believe I’d love this movie if I had a clue about this. So I do plan on rewatching this and I do highly recommend it.
That’s about what we watched in the last … weeks? Months? No clue, as we are watching something every night so I might have missed some which apparently my brain found genuinely boring not to even store recollection of them.
Hope you find it useful!
There is but one Road House movie! The original one, from 1989. The perfect trashy B movie. It’s one of those “so bad it’s good” movies. And as someone who long time ago had long hair, but is follicly challenged these days due to the fucking genetics kicking in back in the day, at the ripe old age of twentysomething, I am bloody envious of Sam Elliott’s hair in that movie.
The Gyllenhaall version is just bad.
Watch the original one. It could be argued that it did not really age well, but it is still far, far better than the remake.
Oof! I had no clue there is ORIGINAL Road House movie. Damn!! I’ll definitely check tjhat out!!
